Encrypt Mac Os External Drive

Apr 21, 2018  I started this because I wanted to updated my El Cap. Fusion drive to High Sierra. Having a free 2TB SATA disk, I've done a clean install of High Sierra from a Unibeast v8.0.0 installer stick. I then decided to get back my El Cap. Data from the 1st startup assistant. I added a bit of Kext and tweak from multibeast for sound and Fermi GeForce 5xx. Should i install mac os high sierra.

In Sierra or below, encrypting is usually fairly quick. Meaning a couple of hours on a drive with lots of data. However, all bets are off with High Sierra. I have turned on FileVault in High Sierra, for example, on a 128GB SSD where 80GB was used and after 2 days, it was 66% encrypted. That is NOT normal. In Sierra, that same drive took less than an hour.
